Hello Cindy. I too, enjoyed the Chinese Whispers podcast very much. It was interesting, educational, entertaining, and sometimes essential in making sense of our world today. Though your portrait of arriving in Heathrow and Shanghai Pudong depicts contrast, Chinese Whispers painted instead how, fundamentally, the people of China and the UK differ little. Both wish for a sense of security, peace, family, friendship, fun, prosperity, opportunity for meaning and creativity, and a faith that life will, somehow, some way, and sometimes against the odds, get better, improve. I appreciated both the contrasts and the concordances, and thank you for exploring them. May your susurrations again carry into a podcast app of my choice before too long. Best wishes, Padmakumāra
Congratulations on your new job. I’m a UK based doctor so while international politics isn’t a focus of my professional life, I’ve always had a personal interest in Chinese history and politics. Chinese Whispers has undoubtedly therefore been my favourite podcast and has been a source of intellectual stimulation, personal inspiration and humour as well as countless insights on what is for me the most interesting power in the world. Thank you for all your hard work. Leo :)
Hi Cindy, I have been an avid listener to Chinese Whispers and you have fuelled my long time fascination with China, and Chinese life. There is so much more ground for CW to cover, especially the insights of US and European based China experts such as William Kirby and all the folk at Mercator Institute for China Studies (Merics). I just returned from a visit to Shanghai and Shenzhen and I believe that many westerners would be stunned by what such modern cities look and feel like - for me it felt like a trip into a future 30 years ahead.
I was saddened to hear the podcast is finishing. I listened to every episode as soon as I could after it came out, so I'm glad at least you'll be keeping it going in some form. Hopefully you'll bring it back! You suit podcasting. Cheers for all the information and exposure to great guests!
Thank you for Chinese Whispers - educational and entertaining. Know a tiny amount about China having had oversight of a joint venture between institutions in Sydney and Ningbo. But you showed me so much more.
What I liked best about your podcast was the assortment of experts with whom you conversed. They were knowledgeable and witty, and your discussions with them were fun to hear. I hope that you can maintain that high level of combined information and entertainment in your new formats!
Congratulations Cindy on your new adventure! Chinese Whispers has been a joyful listen as I go on my daily commute, while bringing incredible insights to some of the work that I do. Thank you very very much!
Thank you Cindy, Chinese Whispers has been an excellent podcast; like many of your listeners I will miss it. Looking forward to seeing your new work with The Times and Sunday Times.
I'm a Brit, living in the USA, and I found your podcast very illuminating. In the States there is a lot of demonization of China. Two members of my team are Chinese and Chinese Whispers often sparked interesting conversations. Hope the podcast comes back but glad that we substack for now. Good luck at the Times.
Will really miss the podcasts, one of my favourites. I am a long term expat in HK who has been travelling up and down to China since mid 90's ( the main cities, 2nd and 3rd tier and also very basic factory areas ) I feel I have a pretty good understanding but just love to hear more. Always surprised how little understanding there seems to be in the West in general and in gov. specifically.
Much to my shame, I’ve never been to China but listening to your podcast has given me a flavour of it beyond the moronic stereotypes of the mainstream media. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.

I think I need to leave Substack… I joined for your updates but they send too many emails.
Thank you Cindy for all your interviews on Spectactor. I found them very insightful, helpful and engaging
All the best with your new chapter.
Leo

Disappointed at continued exodus from Spectator but looking forward to keeping up on your insight at the Times. Many thanks. Take care. Mark
