Ha, thanks for the shoutout Cindy! Beijing to Britain may be RIP, but I was (sort of) pleased to see some of my recommendations picked up. Unfortunately, still give the entire audit a 2.5/10.
I wish you were in charge of China policy ! These lame socialist donkeys currently in charge have little idea of what is at stake and are guaranteed to lose the country’s interests as they thrash around getting nowhere. We should be standing firmly with our allies America Japan Australia in supporting Taiwan and gauging other activity and involvement in the light of this priority .
Chen Chih-han's embrace of mainland is more a projection of disappointment of the status quo in Taiwan though, which itself has become something of a one-party state (more Japanese than Chinese in flavour though, but still).
Surprised the Reeves visit to China got such little comment. Calculated insults to her - not picked up. Her tours were not to prestigious sites/ businesses and her “deal” seemed to revolve around exports of semen. China was having a laugh and was emphasizing the weakness shown by the UK government. Clear thinking, principled stance
and reality checks are needed before any more engagement. Thanks as ever for your insights - so valuable at this time.
I was just reading about Victoria Amelina’s book on the excellent Beyond Berlin Substack earlier today. Some good reading on the Orwell list. I’m interested in your views (also Sam’s) on the BRICS gathering, especially the absence of Xi Jinping, usually a regular attendee.

That picture is incredible.
